This is a facilitator training course for health care professionals wishing to deliver educationall intervention - the "Taking Charge Program" - on healthy lifestyle changes for women who have completed active treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation) for breast cancer. The Taking Charge Program consists of a Facilitator Manual, Power Point slides (5 sessions) with suggested narration and notes, handouts, diet and physical activities, YouTube strength and stretching exercises and access to cancer survivorship healthy living recipes. The Taking Charge Program utilizes the Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Transtheoretical Model (TTM) of Change to provide effective support for lifestyle changes. The program is structured to guide women through some of the stages of behavior change, addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of recovery while promoting physical health and healthy weight strategies.
Time Commitment
To deliver the Taking Charge Program, health care professionals need to spend preparation time on the following activities: reading the facilitator guide, as well as reviewing the slide decks and other materials provided by the course The Taking Charge Program content is organized as five two-hour sessions, usually given over a five to ten week period.
